You seem to have become the hawk here yourself. A wonderful story indeed sir.Tony Dunsworthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02804983768242766173noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1872655574498550562.post-77236431947208351222011-08-11T12:24:50.480-05:002011-08-11T12:24:50.480-05:00It was a good lesson and a deep meaning. Let us hope these stories make it into a book that can be passed down to our children's children one day.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1872655574498550562.post-55226576240261139792011-08-09T13:23:53.815-05:002011-08-09T13:23:53.815-05:00A couple of years ago, a new heathen asked the kin...A couple of years ago, a new heathen asked the kindred why there was a hawk on Corpse-Gulper's beak. The Lore gives us no real explanation of this...so that was our answer. "We're not sure."

The new heathen made an oath that she was going to write a children's story that explained why the hawk sat on Corpse-Gulper's beak...and we accepted the oath. But as things sometimes happen, the new heathen had to move away, and never followed through on the oath or a Shyld for failing in their oath.

For two years now, I've kept this failed oath in mind. I've often come back to this question about the hawk, but never really come up with a story that I was happy with.

On the drive up to the Superior Heathen Gathering this past week, I started mulling over a story. I bounced ideas off of Rod, and Rod offered suggestions on the plot. Back and forth we bounced the story, until I had a plot outline that I liked.

In symbel at the Superior Heathen Gathering I improvised the telling of the tale above over the horn, and fullfilled another's failed oath.

None truly know for sure what our ancestors believed about the hawk on Corpse-Gulper's beak. But when my children ask me why, I'll be comfortable telling them this story as a lesson.ghostvigil.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03643288508875275397noreply@blogger.com
